That Year of Our War (Wheeler Large Print Book)
Published in Paperback by Wheeler Pub (November, 1994)
Author: Gloria Goldreich
Average review score:

The Year of our War
I was about the same age as Sharon in 1944-45. I can certainly identify with the times... This is the first book by Gloria Goldreich that I have read, but it will not be the last.... Most people today don't really know the unrest that all people felt during the WWII battles. I can understand how the Jewish people felt and how awful it was for the people in Europe at the time as well as the Pacific area....This story is about a large Jewish family in New York during the last year of the war. It shows all the wonderful togetherness experienced by this family and how strong they were. I still remember them even after I have finished reading the book and feel as if I know this family very well... I do remember the songs of those days as well as the ration stamps. These were times of hardship as well as great patriotism by all living in the USA at that time.............. I recommend this book to anyone. Well written!

The Tiger in the Grass: Stories and Other Inventions (Wheeler Large Print Book Series (Cloth))
Published in Hardcover by Wheeler Pub (September, 1996)
Author: Harriet Doerr
Average review score:

Exceptional reading
This book reads like poetry. It's been a while since I read it, but am thinking of reading it again...such a beautiful, if not sad look back on a long and rich life centered in a dry and dusty old Mexico.

Too Much Coffee Man's Amusing Musings
Published in Paperback by Dark Horse Comics (07 December, 2001)
Authors: Shannon Wheeler and Tom Tomorrow
Average review score:

the world explained by coffee and cigarettes
This is a book. It's deep, it's funny, and it laughs at almost everything that most people take seriously. When TMCM explains to his friends how we live in a society that tolerates violence more than nudity, they reply, "I'd rather get hit in the head than see you naked." Many people would agree with this, but wouldn't dare admit it, in case someone accused them of being politically incorrect or some other daft notion. And speaking of daft notions, the whole "missile defense shield" concept is put under the microscope and shown for the silliness it truly represents. But, as the astronaut who is welding it together tells TMCM, at least he'll make a lot of money building it.
The point of all this: Amusing Musings is a solid literary achievement that mixes social commentary with existential philosophy and creates something that is just as funny as real life, but more interesting. This book belongs on the table of anyone who finds parties to be boring as hell and knows that if God knows everything, he can't have faith in anything, and therefore is an atheist. Those who take this kind of stuff seriously would be well advised to stay far away from this book, and go buy something written by Maya Angelou instead.

Too Much Coffee Man: Parade of Tirade
Published in Paperback by Dark Horse Comics (10 January, 2000)
Authors: Shannon Wheeler, Will Eisner, and Henry Rollins
Average review score:

Maybe bitter, but good to the last drop
Parade of Tirade is about failed relationships, depression, and lonliness far more often than it's about the superhero genre. It might not be for everyone. The thing that really caught my attention about this one, though, is that Wheeler switches between the world of Too Much Coffee Man, and the equally bleak "real world." The "real world" part of the comics focus on an overworked cartoonist who creates TMCM, and a Generation X fan, Joel, whose life is steadily going downhill.

The Unplanned Pregnancy Handbook: Real Life Stories, Resources, and Information to Help You
Published in Paperback by PublishAmerica (23 December, 2002)
Author: Dorrie Williams-Wheeler
Average review score:

Valuable Information, A++
The Unplanned Pregnancy Handbook is an invaluable resource to a woman who is facing an unplanned pregnancy, or one who just wants to learn more about pregnancy. There is no other unplanned pregnancy book that I have come across that discusses programs such as WIC and maternity shelters. The book also has phone number and web sites. It takes a fare non judgemental look at the abortion process and also includes information on the different types of adoption, such as private adoption. Not to be confused with a boring handbook, this book includes real stories of women who have been faced with unplanned pregnancies. These stories seem very real and not manufactured to the topic. I recommend this book for your library, school or personal use.

A Very Scary Ghost Story (Cartwheel)
Published in Paperback by Cartwheel Books (September, 1999)
Authors: Joanne Barkan and Jody Wheeler
Average review score:

Our favorite Halloween book !
The story follows 2 ghost children who come into town on Halloween to try to find something scary to enjoy. They find skeletons, witches, vampire bats (which glow-in-the-dark). In the end it's the human trick-or-treaters that they find scary enough to spend the eventing with.

This is my kids favorite of the "A very scary..." series (haunted house, jack-o-lantern, & witch story). I like this book because the ghost children confidently confront typical childhood fears and are not afraid. The dragon ends up being afraid of them. The glow-in-the-dark figures are part of the story, not just a novelty.

Wake Up and Smell the Cartoons of Shannon Wheeler

Author: Shannon Wheeler
Average review score:

If you've ever had one cup too many.........
If you like witty, sarcastic, smart humor, you will love Shannon Wheeler. This book is so funny-that I loaned it to my friends and they loved it. Wheeler's artistic work exudes a kind of neurotic energy that we've all experienced and relate to,a definite must buy.

Wanted (Wheeler Large Print Book)
Published in Paperback by Wheeler Pub (April, 1995)
Author: Patricia Potter
Average review score:

ANOTHER GREAT HISTORICAL WESTERN!
WOW! Where does P.P. get these great characters?

Twins, Nicholas Braden and Morgan Davis refuse to acknowledge their unusual connection. Fleur Braden is the only one who knows the whole story of their separation.

Lorilee Braden loves one twin as a brother and the other twin as a man. She is also the silly woman who does not realized the grave danger that surrounds them and contributes to the problem.

The tempers of these two men are explosive and just barely held in check. Suprisingly so. Jealously was touched upon but surely did confused the men.

I suggest that you don't miss any of Potter's books, especially the Western Historicals -- they are great

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED -- morality questionable, judgeing the times, the areas, and the situations. A really great read and a keeper.
